Welcome to Ladue Theatre!

Ladue Theatre is now casting for our spring production of "Legally Blonde"! If you love to sing, act and dance, we'd love to see you audition for our talented cast.

🎭 General Audition Process

General auditions take place on Tuesday, Nov 18th OR Wednesday, Nov 19th from 2:45-5:00 PM. Here's what to expect:

All students meet together for welcome and overview

Warmup (2:50-3:00 PM)

Group vocal and physical warmup

Dance Audition (3:00 PM-3:30 PM)

In-person instruction of a short dance sequence - all students auditioning for performance roles

For students interviewing for technical positions only

What to Prepare

For your individual audition, you'll need:

  • One vocal selection - Choose from the song excerpts listed below
  • One cold reading - Choose from the cold read excerpts listed below
  • Comfortable clothes for dancing (wear layers you can move in)

Backing tracks have been provided below for home audition prep. RehearseScore tracks will be used during auditions and callbacks.

If you are invited to callbacks on Thursday, November 20th, you'll receive specific instructions via email about scenes and songs to prepare.

🔧 Tech Interviews & Crew Positions

Not interested in performing? Join our amazing technical crew! Tech interviews take place during the same time as dance auditions. All crew members are essential to bringing this show to life.

Important: All actors will also be assigned a technical position. Whether you're cast or crew-only, you'll learn valuable theatre skills and be part of our collaborative team!

Available Technical Positions

Stage Management

Coordinate all aspects of the production, call cues during performances, manage rehearsal schedules, and serve as the central communication hub between cast, crew, and director.

Assistant Director

Support the director in staging scenes, provide feedback to actors, take blocking notes, and help maintain the artistic vision throughout the rehearsal process.

Set Construction

Build and paint scenic elements, operate power tools safely under supervision, create the physical world of the show, and transform the stage into Harvard Law School and beyond.

Stage Lighting

Design and operate lighting equipment, program light cues, work in catwalks and on ladders, and create the mood and atmosphere that brings each scene to life.

Costumes

Source, construct, and maintain all costumes, assist with quick changes backstage, ensure actors look their best, and help bring each character's personality to life through clothing.

Props

Create, source, and organize all hand props and set dressing, track props during performances, and ensure every item is in the right place at the right time.

Sound

Operate sound equipment, manage microphones, balance audio levels during performances, and ensure the audience hears every word and note clearly.

Publicity (Marketing)

Create promotional materials, manage social media, design posters and programs, and spread the word to ensure packed houses for all three performances.

House Management

Coordinate front-of-house operations, manage ushers, handle audience seating, and ensure patrons have a welcoming and smooth theatre experience.

What to Expect at Tech Interviews

Tech interviews are casual conversations where we'll learn about your interests, skills, and availability. No prior experience is necessary—just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

Safety First: All crew members receive proper training before using any tools or equipment. Parent/guardian approval is required for specific tools and activities—these approvals are included in the registration form.

🎭 Character Breakdowns

Below are the lead and supporting roles available. There are also numerous speaking ensemble roles throughout the show!

ELLE WOODS
Gb3-G5 Soprano Belt

Elle is a sorority girl who follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality to offer the world! She is lovable, determined, vulnerable, energetic and outgoing! Must be comfortable working with dogs. This role includes stage kisses. Requires strong singing, dancing, and acting skills. Must be willing to dye hair blonde or to wear a wig for the show.

EMMETT FORREST
B2-A4 Tenor

Emmett is a smart, quirky, sensitive and personable law student. He ends up taking Elle under his wing and believes in her when it seems that no one else does. Must be comfortable with dogs. A strong singer/actor with great comedic timing!

PAULETTE BUONOFUONTE
A3-A5 Soprano Belt

Paulette is the funny owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. She becomes friends with Elle and longs to marry a man from Ireland. She and Elle help each other achieve their dreams! Must be comfortable with dogs. Strong singer with a powerful belt to match the personality!

PILAR, MARGOT & SERENA
G#3-F5 Belt

Pilar is the sassy and sensible sorority sister. Margot is the seemingly dim-witted, boy-crazy sorority sister. Serena is the energetic cheerleader sorority sister. Margot, Serena, & Pilar are Elle's entourage who follow her through the story acting as her "Greek Chorus". Strong singers and dancers with good comic timing and youthful energy!

PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
A2-F#4 Baritone

Callahan is a pompous and manipulative law professor at Harvard. Callahan should be charismatic but able to turn instantly into a conniving shark at the turn of a hat.

WARNER HUNTINGTON III
Eb3-Ab4 Tenor

Warner is attractive and charming but very self-absorbed. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator, including breaking Elle's heart. Actor must be very comfortable on stage to best display the character's charisma!

VIVIENNE KENSINGTON
A3-Ab5 Soprano Belt

Vivienne is an overachieving, stuck-up, wealthy, smart and savvy law student who is intellectually driven. Yet she feels very threatened by Elle's presence at Harvard. If the actor is naturally blonde, must be willing to dye hair to darker colour - or to wear a wig.

BROOKE WYNDHAM
A3-G5 Alto or Soprano

Brooke is an exercise video star and former Delta Nu sorority girl who was accused of murder. If you are being considered for this role, you may be asked to jump rope while singing during your callback.

KYLE B. O'BOYLE
No singing required

Kyle is a smooth-talking UPS deliveryman. We soon find out that he is Paulette's dream guy. Must be comfortable with dogs. Irish dancing skills are a plus!

ENID HOOPS
G3-G5 Soprano Belt

Enid is a strong, opinionated, feminist law student at Harvard. Great comedic timing!

Rehearsal Schedule

Important Commitments

All participants must:

  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA to participate
  • Be counted present at school to attend rehearsal or performance that day
  • Notify Mr. Scheuer and stage manager of any absences in advance
  • Understand that unexcused absences may result in role/position reassignment
  • Understand that all actors will be assigned a technical position
  • Be comfortable with dogs (two real dogs will be in the show with handlers)
  • Understand that Legally Blonde contains PG-13 language and content
